Why Taunt is the Best Tank Path

Dragon Protection mechanic: The HP drain is actually beneficial — your healer heals it back, and the stacking DEF/ATK buff is permanent for the fight. At 2 stacks: +32% DEF, +20% ATK on top of the base bonuses.

Why Rock Dragon over Chrysalis? Rock Dragon's +30% base DEF and +32% stacking DEF (Dragon Protection) create a multiplicative DEF chain that scales with Moguli of suit set's +200 Pure DEF and Sapphire gems. Chrysalis offers burst shield survival but doesn't compound with DEF%-based scaling the way Rock Dragon does. Rock Dragon also provides +20% ATK for threat generation, which Chrysalis lacks entirely.

Budget Alternative: Rock Drake — ★2

+10→15% HP, +3→5% DR. Cheap and effective tank card for early game.

Alt: Chrysalis — ★4

Shield mechanic: Take 50% max HP in damage → get DEF×200% shield → shield breaks → heal 150% DEF + 35% DEF buff. Use Chrysalis over Rock Dragon when facing burst-heavy content (e.g., Abyss bosses with one-shot mechanics) where the emergency shield saves runs. In sustained fights, Rock Dragon's permanent DEF stacking wins.

Why Moguli of suit is the tank set: The synergy chain with Rock Dragon is exceptional. Rock Dragon's Dragon Protection stacks +32% DEF — Moguli of suit 3pc adds +200 Pure DEF on top, creating an enormous effective DEF pool. The 2pc +15% Block gives free mitigation (blocked hits take zero damage). Most critically, the 4pc +100% HP Recovery Effect doubles all incoming heals, which directly offsets Rock Dragon's 5% HP drain every 5 seconds. With a healer and Bat pet, you become nearly unkillable: Rock Dragon drains HP, your doubled healing fills it back, and you gain permanent DEF stacks in the process.


Gem Setup

Rock Dragon scales with DEF — every 5 seconds you gain +16% DEF per stack (max 2). Stack DEF gems to maximize Dragon Protection value. ATK gems are secondary since Rock Dragon also grants +10% ATK per stack passively.

Early Game (Before Moguli of suit 4pc)

Without the Moguli of suit set's +100% HP Recovery, Rock Dragon's 5% HP drain is harder to sustain. Balance DEF stacking with more HP for survivability.

Why DEF-heavy in endgame? With Moguli of suit 4pc active, every heal is doubled — Rock Dragon's 5% HP drain becomes trivial. This lets you go aggressive on Sapphire gems. Rock Dragon's +32% DEF buff is a percentage multiplier, so higher base DEF from gems = exponentially more effective HP. At ★4, the combined +30% base DEF, +32% stacking DEF, Moguli of suit's +200 Pure DEF, and Tortoise's +45% DEF make Sapphire gems roughly 40% more slot-efficient than Emerald for total mitigation.
